The solar plant island – premiere at Boot 2025
At Boot 2025 we will be presenting our new, "autonomous solar plant islands" made of ECOPLASTIQ. A solar-powered compressor provides fresh oxygen, which benefits the fish and plants. Stainless steel and plant islands made of HDPE mesh can be positioned around the solar plant island in any size up to 500 square meters.

Eutrophication of the oceans caused by fertilizers and pesticides continues to increase unchecked. At the same time, the oceans are warming, which leads to strong algae growth, oxygen deficiency, and thus the death of underwater plants and fish.
After a two-year test phase on the growth and effect of plant islands in the Media Harbour, we are pleased to present the first “islands with saltwater plants” together with Plant Islands Lower Rhine.
The reed is suitable for the shallow water zone as well as the deep water zone. It grows strongly and is of great importance for plant-based sewage treatment plants or renaturation, as it has a water-purifying effect due to its high nutrient requirements and thus counteracts the growth of algae in salt water.
The Planting Island
The floating islands are made of a porous, light rock, a waste product from the glass industry. Plants with different properties are planted on the rocks. Within a very short time, a network of roots (biofilm, matrix) develops under the island, which uses microorganisms to filter the nutrients and toxins out of the water. Studies have shown that 10 square meters produce around 1000 square meters of active biofilter.
This biofilm has the ability to treat multiple pollutants simultaneously, such as nitrate, phosphate, ammonia, organic carbon, heavy metals and petrochemicals, algae, suspended solids and creepers.
